Sounds Of: December

A belated blog post due to a BUSY month! Here are my favourite songs from December...

Three words: ULTIMATE SUMMER BANGER. A hard hitting house number that has it all - beats, bass and Rromarin (who is killing it on the collab scene btw). A huge vibe that will pump you up in seconds. Promise.

Described as a “love song dedicated to all the sacred mirrors” in her life, ‘Watched By U’ is the third release from Squidgenini and will hook you from start to finish. With vocals that gradually build to an impressive crescendo and a simplistic RnB influenced soundscape to back, the Melbourne based artist takes an introspective approach on this new song with her lyrics exploring themes of communication and reflection. Squid is set on doing her own thing and it’s paying off - an exciting and captivating artist worth watching in the new year.

Identity seems to be a key theme on Wafia’s forthcoming EP and her latest song ‘Only Love’ further explores this notion. With vulnerable lyrics and a highly polished production, it’s another personal release for the singer-songwriter who this time reflects on developing feelings for another woman, for the first time. Wafia is approaching her craft with purpose, creating pop music that you can dance to, but also relate to. I can’t speak highly enough of her tbh, and this next EP is one of my most anticipated releases of 2018.

A short but super sweet cut from the Byron Bay outfit who won my heart earlier this year with their surf-rock guitars and dream-pop vocals from Darcy. This one is more upbeat than previous offerings but if you like anything that's pretty mellow (Turnover etc), I reckon you'll be keen on Seaside.

Following their October collab with Feki, Sydney outfit GLADES are closing out 2017 with the feel good “Do Right”. Fully embracing their euphoric pop sensibilities, “Do Right” is the trio’s response to what was a pretty whacky/negative 2017 for the world, with a clear message of spreading love and doing right by each other. It's genuine and very true to the GLADES sound, so no surprise really that you're finding it here! <3

It’s nyck x St. South for this brand new duo that no-one saw coming but  I'm 10000% here for it. And look, I'm not even going to try and top these words from Tommy Faith (“Liv has the hushed intimacy of a candlelit conversation while Nick’s is wrapped in bold warmth of your grandfather’s firmest hug.”) Go on then, cop this beauty in ya ears rn.

GLADES are this month's cover angels and Anna Lee is to thank! Check her out here
