A little late (festive season amirite?)...but here's a few fave finds to close out 2016...

RETRO CULTURE - CALLING

Look, drunk dialling an ex is never a good idea but it’s influenced this total banger from Retro Culture so Ima let it slide for now. The Melbourne producer/multi-instrumentalist has gone guns blazing in what is his biggest pop track to date, with vocals that remind me a lot of Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle) and huge production chops that I’d put right up there with the likes of Peking Duk. A massive anthem that’s sitting at the top of my summer playlist. Turn it up.

ASHA JEFFERIES - ON THE INSIDE

Fresh outta high school, Asha Jefferies has wasted no time in melting hearts with latest offering “On The Inside”. With lyrics that stretch well beyond her years and a full band now in tow, the Brisbane singer songwriter has captured intense beauty and depth in her sound that stylistically I can’t help but liken to Canadian folk outfit The Franklin Electric. Really keen to see what 2017 holds for this young gun.

PLTS – CALL ME OUT

It’s been a pretty solid year for these legends outta Byron Bay so I guess it’s only fitting that they end 2016 with another winning single. “Call Me Out” sees the quartet team up with producer JP Fung yet again for this surf-rock tune full of kicking guitars, driving percussion and lyrics of self-disconnection. It’s a bit more of a mellow offering in comparison to previous release “Astoria” but a great reflection of PLTs diverse pallet which will be further highlighted across February when the band join heavyweights The Amity Affliction on tour.

THRUPENCE - RINSE REPEAT

He’s been turning heads in the world of visual art lately under his real name Jack Vanzet, but new music from Thrupence has proved to be welllllll worth the wait. “Rinse Repeat” sees the Melbourne producer pick up the pace in this experimental soundscape full of texture and groove, expanding into yet another sonic masterpiece that will leave you wanting more. (Lucky for us, more music is set for 2017)

EDWARD VANZET - SLEEPING LIKE NORMAL

As we welcome Thrupence back into the music world, we also say hello to his brother, Edward! He’s punched out a new track this month which is warm, breezy and perfect for your lazy summer afternoons.
